We spoke to Beauty Therapist and Blogger Laura Law to find out all of her beauty secrets and how she keeps her skin glowing and youthful…
Hi Laura! We’ve become a bit obsessed with your signature facial since we first tried it and can’t wait to go back for more! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and why you became a beauty therapist?
I have always been interested in beauty, even as a little girl. I think I was inspired by my Mum who habitually looks after her skin and nails and is constantly trying different lotions and potions. Like most women, I love being pampered and it’s a great feeling to have the ability to make others feel good about themselves too.
After years of working in a busy salon, I decided that I wanted the freedom of working for myself. Last year I took the plunge and created my solo business and blog Laura Law Beauty. I haven’t looked back.
What’s your favourite treatment on your menu and why?
My favourite treatment has to be My Signature Facial. I love the positive feedback I receive from my clients in regards to their skin and how they feel physically after the treatment. It’s very relaxing for me; almost meditative.
The facial involves deep cleansing via extractions with a micro lance needle. I then use LED Light therapy and an Indian Kansa Wand to detoxify the skin, assist Lymphatic drainage and boost Collagen production. This is followed by a very firm massage to relieve tension in the facial muscles and encourage them to sit higher; creating a natural face lift.
I finish the treatment by applying a selection of luxury skincare products which I tailor to the individual. It is 1 hour and 30 minutes of pure indulgence.
What’s your all-time favourite skincare product?
This is difficult to answer as there are so many; but one that I buy repeatedly is Vitage Skincare’s Revitalising Daily Cleanser. It is a creamy gel that lathers into a light foam, thoroughly removing all traces of makeup (including eyes) gently without stripping the skin. I always have one of these in my kit.
You use our Collagen Boost supplements – is it important for you to look after your skin from the inside too?
Definitely. Caring from our skin isn’t just about what we apply topically, and this is one of my biggest beauty secrets. The condition of our skin is hugely affected by stress, sleep, water consumption and of course; what we eat. I try to eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and pulses. I have also recently cut back on meat. When I over indulge in sugary foods, alcohol, or lack sleep, the first place it shows is in my skin.
What’s the most common skincare complaint that you see with your clients?
The most common complaint is dehydration, however this is one of the easiest to fix. My tips for combating dehydration are; drink plenty of water, apply a targeted facial mist after cleansing and a hydrating serum underneath your moisturiser morning and night.
What are your favourite foods to keep your skin looking great?
To assist hydration, I like to eat fruit and veg with a high water content such as watermelon, cucumber and tomatoes. These are packed full of essential vitamins and nutrients that feed skin cells and anti-oxidants to protect against environmental damage.
Naturally oily foods such as avocado, fish and walnuts are also great due to their anti-inflammatory, hydrating and healing properties.
